Season's Greetings
“MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues,”
Merry Christmas, these greetings were brought to you by the President of the United States.
The Christianity of which I am aware is centered around compassion, forgiveness, and loving one's enemies. I am unable to determine where the love and empathy prescribed by Jesus is demonstrated in his greeting.
Retribution and punishment are the purview of God. Jesus, the sole source and ideal of Christianity, calls us to forgive and endure. Are mercy and grace so foreign to us that we must rely on the force of arms, destruction and bloodshed to subdue our fear?
Other than a theological consideration, what threat did he address? Did he provide justice to the victims of isolated Isis cells in Syria? Were those who suffered or their friends and family made whole?
The "slaughter of Christians", as repulsive as it is, does not constitute a threat to the national security of the United States. Addressing such threats in other than a domestic element is the basis for the existence of our military, their reason for being.
Other means. diplomatic, economic, international influence are all options to be exercised to compel concession or assent.
